Sun Harvest Citrus ~ A Must On Your Florida To Do List

Hello Lovelies,

Sun Harvest Citrus in Fort Myers, Florida is a magical place that our family loves to visit as often as possible.  Besides having the best oranges and grapefruits in town, they also have a spectacular gift shop, bakery, post office, various juices, ice cream, free juice samples and so much more.

Fair warning ~ Don’t be in a hurry when you visit because there is plenty to keep everyone entertained.

Let me show you around.

Milkshake

First and foremost, Sun Harvest Citrus makes the most phenomenal milkshakes – period! Our family favorite is their orange milkshake that taste like a creamcicle.

If milkshakes are not your thing, they also have soft serve ice cream in several different flavors as well as a vast assortment of decadent pastries.

Let me just say, YUM!

Fresh-Juice

Second, Sun Harvest Citrus hands down makes the best orange juice.  But here’s where things get even better – they don’t only make plain orange juice (which is spectacular unto itself). Oh no…they step it up a notch by combining Strawberries with Oranges and Cranberries with Oranges taking OJ to the next level.  You must taste to believe, my friends.  These two juice variations are ah~mazing.

Here’s some more good news, you can purchase their juice on site.  If you’re not sure which one you prefer, no problem, they have that covered.  There is an entire tasting station devoted to sharing their juice with you at no charge.  Taste away and leave with your favorite juice in a half or full gallon.  Bring your coolers, because you’re not going to leave with just one, trust me.

Behind-glass

Fun Fact – Their juice is made on site.

There is a glass partition that separates the juice plant from the store. You can watch the employees packaging the juice which is pretty cool for both kids and adults.

It’s kind of like an aquarium, but instead of fish there are people and instead of water there is juice. So basically it’s nothing like an aquarium…it’s just a glass partition.

Still it’s fun to watch!

Flamingo-Statues

They also have this fabulous gift shop where you can purchase all kinds of things you don’t necessarily need, but surely will want.

And then you can mail them to friends and family at the US Post Office that is housed inside the building.  These people really know how to make things easy.

Fruit-Shipping-Center

Last but surely not least ~ You can even send fruit to people you love.

Everyone knows nothing says “I love you” like a basket of fruit. Well…maybe jewelry – but for the sake of this post let’s just stick with fruit.

Their fruit boxes come in a wide variety of arrangements, making it easy to pick the perfect gift for pretty much anyone, especially for those “impossible to buy for” people.

Gift-shop

So there you have it.  If you are visiting Southwest Florida this should absolutely be on your list of things to do.  Let Sun Harvest Citrus provide a break from the heat and entertain you for a while ~ you’ll be glad you stopped by.

Until next time…Be blessed, stay blessed and remember if you don’t laugh at yourself someone will do it for you!

Naked Man at Silver River State Park, Ocala, Florida

IMG_2059

Sooo…We were biking through the park one day,

In the merry, merry month of May,

And what to our surprise,

A strange man would catch our eye.

For no clothes did he bare,

Thankfully, the law was quickly there.

He made a quick escape,

With some pants he made a drape.

To cover his (ahems..)

So we did not see his gems.

Quite an experience I must say,

For I will never forget that day!

IMG_2086

What am I talking about and why are you showing me a blurry photo? Fair question.

Picture this…Hot weather, my son (10) and I alone biking the Silver River State Park forest trails. Suddenly, we have to stop and walk our bikes through very thick sugar sand when I look up to see –

A buck naked, no clothes wearing man. To give him some credit, he was wearing a hat.

He proceeds to walk past us as he covered his royal gems with his pants.

True Story.

My son was concentrating so much on getting his bike through the sand he never realized the man was naked.

I turned around just to be sure and yep, his bum was as bright as the moon. Oh, my.

I took a photo of his rear view, but as you can see my camera fogged up – of all the times to fog up, really, why now?

I called papi (that’s what I call my hubby) who immediately called the park rangers. Who immediately swarmed the area looking for the naked bandit.

Unfortunately, he was gone in a flash. (Get it) – I crack myself up.

But yes, he was gone and no they never caught him.

I must say it caused quite an uproar amongst the rangers.

They said NEVER had anything like this happened.

I chuckled because stuff like this follows me around. Stick with me and you’ll understand.

IMG_2109

Anywho, the park is fantastic, you probably won’t see my naked man, but if you do please take a picture so I can replace my foggy photo.

I am just kidding – that would be weird. Besides, I have a very permanent, unwanted photo burned into my mind.

So, to keep moving with this review…

The camp sites are wonderful and the restrooms are spotless.

Since we go camping specifically to mountain bike we fell in love with the Ocala “Santos” MTB Trail System. (Shown Above)

One of the neatest perks was that you could park your car and enter the trailhead at Santos Bike Shop.

They even let you use their restrooms, which is good because I always have to use the restroom before biking.

The staff is super knowledgable and friendly. Can’t say enough about them. Actually, I could and I am.

To sum it all up – The state park is fantastic, the santos trail system is the best we have been to, the Santos Bike Shop is top-notch and the views – well… you’ll just have to see for yourself.

Until next time…don’t hike naked – it scares the wildlife.

Be blessed, stay blessed and remember if you don’t laugh at yourself someone will do it for you!

Top 5 Reasons to Hang with Salvador Dali in St. Petersburg Florida

Hello Lovelies,

Traveling is a passion shared by my entire family.  We love to travel and travel we do.  Even if it is simply a day trip to St. Petersburg, Florida, the enjoyment rings true just the same.

Dali Brochure Cover

Today’s road trip brought us to a magical-ificent venue.  See what I did there – this place is so amhazing I had to combine two great words together just to introduce you to…

Salvador Dali, The Big D, Dali, Dali Salvador, D-diddly do wop de bop….”YO Sal, What’s up?” That’s what I’d say if I was way cooler and saw him on the street.  No, I wouldn’t that’s preposterous.  And so the story goes…

Salvador Dali was a Spanish painter who lived from 1904 – 1989.

He is known for his eccentric behavior and the shocking quality of his imagination.

If you want more technical information regarding him you can visit thedali.org.

For this piece I am going to talk from my heart about what fascinated myself and my family about The Great Dali.  I hope you enjoy.

Our first delight with St. Petersburg was crossing over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.  4.1 miles long and supposedly one of the “Top 10 bridges” in the world. Check, only 9 more…now only if I knew where they are located.

Once at the Dali museum our arrival was greeted by a fun filled door welcoming us in various languages along with the most beautiful wall of flowers.

True Story – Everytime I went to snap a photo of the door someone would come walking out of the museum.  It’s alright though, because now I have my yearly quota of “people walking through a door” photos – so clearly it wasn’t a complete waste of my time.

For clarification purposes, that’s me.

The building was breathtaking as you can see, modern and uplifting.  The energy in the building was so positive, I suppose it would be hard to be grumpy with all that fresh sunlight pouring down upon you.  Although, I’m sure there are some folks who are up for the challenge…Uh-hum…

Here is a map of the museum for your enjoyment.  Read at your leisure.

Brochure Exhibit Area Dali

This is where the fun begins.  Prior to heading upstairs (that’s where the art lives) we received head phones with a nifty little box that knew a whole lot about Dali.

Various pieces throughout the museum where marked with a number.  Once you punched that number into the device you were met with a treat of an explanation regarding that particular piece of art.

In addition to the adult explanation there were customized more animated versions for the children.  My boys preferred the adult versions but I listened to a few of the children’s versions and they were delightful.  Oh, how I love technology!!

Dali-Museum-2013---Santiago-De-Grande---LaurelsLovelyLiving.com

And now here is what you have been waiting for…Drum Roll Please:

My Top 5 reasons I love Dali and therefore you should too!!

1.  The fact that my favorite piece of art requires and accent and flair of the hands to properly pronounce – Santiago El Grande. I think Mariachi’s should come out of a hallway for the complete effect.

2.  He loves to hide things in his art.  Nieuw Amsterdam is the bust of White Eagle sculpted by Charles Schreyvogel then painted on 75 years later by Dali.  Dali transforms White Eagle’s face into an interior setting where two Dutch gentlemen toast each other.  This however, is not readily visible.  It takes a moment to realize it’s not war paint on White Eagle’s face but instead dinner time.  Cleverly impressive!!

3.  He has good old fashion God given talent.  Not the paint-by-numbers talented like I have, but real talent.  Several of his paintings look as though they were taken by a camera.  His art comes alive when you look at it.

4.  You can actually stare at his art.  Let me explain…You know when you see someone staring at a piece of art that looks as if an elephant painted it and they seem so engaged…you wonder to yourself, “Self – Is it me or them?”.  Then hope it’s them because if it’s you then you’re in trouble.  Well, not his art.  His art has such depth and thought put into every piece you’re bound to discover something new each time you look at it.  Aside from some nudity, which we embrace, his art is wonderful for children because it lends itself to their depth of imagination.  Our boys 10 and 11 absolutely LOVED it!!

5.  This one is my favorite – He was madly, head over heels in love with his wife, Gala.  She can be found in a great deal of his paintings and she always looks so beautiful.  She was his muse and the love of his life.  And really, is there anything better than LOVE??

So there you have it.  5 fantastic reasons to run off and visit Dali.  Or at least google him…

Dali-Museum-2013---Exit---LaurelsLovelyLiving.com

And so lovely, as we exit the building, this is where we shall part ways on this fine day.

I hope you enjoyed our day trip!

Until-Next-Time

~ I’m off to find my paint by numbers – I feel inspired!!

Be Blessed, Stay Blessed and remember if you don’t laugh at yourself someone will do it for you!
